Watch out for Drugs and Personal Care Products in Your Tap Water

contaminated water in your tap waterMedia agencies report that drinking water is contaminated with pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) that may endanger your health.

What are PPCPs and Their Potential Health Hazards?

PPCPs include prescription and over-the-counter drugs, fragrances, cosmetics, and other bioactive chemicals. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), residues of painkillers, antidepressants, birth control pills, shampoos, and other chemical substances from treatment plants and septic systems have been found in U.S. waterways.

Dr. Joseph Mercola, a natural health expert, points out the importance of looking into the issue of PPCPs entering and poisoning the public water supply. Some of his major concerns include:

  • The dangerous side effects of drugs in the water supply
  • People’s exposure to different drugs that should never be combined
  • The hazards of ingesting drugs that are meant only for external application
  • Some individuals may develop allergic reactions from contaminated water

Take Control of Your Health by Filtering Your Drinking Water

Dr. Mercola believes that the best thing you can do is avoid drinking unfiltered tap water, as it is most likely tainted with PPCPs and other harmful contaminants.

Use a high-quality water filter that can effectively remove PPCPs, chlorine, fluoride, and organic contaminants like herbicides and pesticides. A water filtration system that makes use of natural, non-toxic media, and food grade components will help produce clean, safe drinking water for you and your loved ones.
