Drugs in Your Tap Water? Yes, and This Truth Won’t Go Down the Drain

Drugs in Your Tap WaterHave you heard of “pharmaceutical pollution” finding its way into tap water?

You should have. A recent study shows that traces of cancer and psychiatric drugs were found in Great Britain’s tap water, and top natural health expert Dr. Joseph Mercola says it isn’t an isolated case.

“As if there weren’t already enough environmental toxins, drugs get deposited into your drinking water via two routes: excretion and unused prescription drugs. Very few people know about this danger in the water they trust,” Dr. Mercola exposes.

The Shocking Findings about Your Tap Water

The 100-page report commissioned by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) reveals that traces of cancer chemotherapy drug bleomycin and a sedative called diazepam have been found in samples of the country’s drinking water. This is despite the “extensive purification treatments” water companies are using.

Experts say that the drug levels are too low to cause a direct health risk. Concerns, however, have been raised about the possible dangers to the unborn child in every pregnant woman exposed to drug-contaminated water.

The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in Wallingford, Oxfordshire conducted a separate study but echoes a similar finding: chemotherapy drugs are being washed into the rivers of Britain.

And while adults who drink more than three pints of water a day are estimated to receive doses of the drugs between 300 and 30,000 times lower than recommended safety levels each week, scientist and Wallingford study lead Andrew Jackson says “it would be foolish to assume there is no risk.”

Should You Allow Drugs Into Your Drinking Water?
Dr. Mercola sees this development as another symptom of the reign of the “drug-addicted healthcare paradigm” in the United States and other countries.

These drugs get deposited into one’s drinking water through: (1) excretion, where drugs given to humans and livestock have active components entering sewage treatment centers or polluting groundwater; and (2) unused prescription drugs, which are either flushed down the toilet or finding their way into landfills.

Dr. Mercola enumerates the potential concerns as follows:

  • Exposure to traces of multiple drugs and other harmful metals and chemicals
  • The known dangerous side effects of drugs in normal prescription doses
  • Ingestion of drugs that were only intended for external or internal application
  • Various allergies to drugs in one’s water supply
  • Harmful combining of drugs that shouldn’t take place!

While the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other government agencies have already released directives to remedy the potential harm to humans, animals and plants, the concern that is dubbed “pharmaceutical problem” persists and continues to invade one’s home and drinking water.

Take Control! Use Water Filters For Safety
Regular tap water may be polluted with anything from pharmaceuticals to flouride and toxins, and this is a reality you just can’t shrug off.

Dr. Mercola thus recommends filtering tap water before drinking it, utilizing a quality water filtration system to help purify water and eliminate its contaminants.

“Right now, the best way you can provide pure water to your family is by using a reverse osmosis filter, which you can install in your home. Remember that you may also want to filter the water that you use to bathe with, as this can be a significant source of exposure to toxins as well,” Dr. Mercola suggests.

Thinking of getting bottled water instead? The health expert advises against it. “I do not suggest using bottled water as an alternative because of the extreme toll it takes on the environment,” he says.

So if you think that water filters are for mere luxury, think again. The drug that you’re so wary about taking might already be invading your drinking water today.
