Stats on Soft Drinks – And Why They’re Another Nail in the Coffin!
Online Schools created this illustration of soft drink statistics that is full of harrowing details on soda obsession and how it brings your health down the drain.
Did you know that 21% of ALL the sugar in the average American diet comes from soft drinks? The statistics boil down to this: there is absolutely NO reason for you to drink soft drinks or allow your kids and family to do so.
“Amazingly, according to these statistics, Americans consume close to 50 billion liters of soda per year, which equates to about 216 liters, or about 57 gallons per person. That’s a staggering amount of sugar!” says Dr. Joseph Mercola, founder of Mercola.com, the world’s most visited natural health web site.
Soda contains high fructose corn syrup (HFCS): the # 1 source of calories in the United States and the primary cause of the obesity epidemic. This isn’t just any sugar sweetener, adds Dr. Mercola.
Other appalling facts on soft drink use are:
- Just one can of Coke contains 10 teaspoons of sugar, which is already 100% of your recommended daily intake. Here’s an entire list of different ways sugar can damage your health!
- Within 10-40 minutes of drinking Coke , sugar crash and other vicious affairs are already happening inside your body.
- Soda drinkers face higher cancer risk. Sugar intake has been linked with breast, throat, and colon cancers.
- Soda has been shown to cause DNA damage, courtesy of sodium benzoate, a common soft drink preservative that can switch off vital parts of your DNA. This could lead to diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson’s.
As a standard recommendation, Dr. Mercola strongly advises keeping your total fructose consumption below 25 grams a day.
“Stopping the pernicious habit of drinking soda is one of the easiest things you can do,” he says. Dr. Mercola urges you to replace soda and other sugary drinks with clean, pure water.
To ensure purity and safety, high-quality water filters are your best bet at home. These water filters remove chlorine, fluoride (added to most municipal water supplies), toxic chemicals, and other contaminants that may be present in your unfiltered tap water.
