ADA Discourages Mixing Baby Formula with Fluoridated Water
Even the American Dental Association (ADA) has given fluoride the thumbs down, urging infants’ parents to “consider using water that has no or low levels of fluoride” when mixing baby formula.
In a June 2007 report in the St. Petersburg Times, the ADA is said to have alerted its members starting late 2006 against fluoride. The ADA used to strongly advocate the addition of fluoride to water. Its main concern is fluorosis, a discoloration of the teeth and breakdown of enamel caused by too much fluoride.
Scientists believe that fluorosis, even in its mild to moderate forms, leads to more significant problems. Studies have already associated the condition with lower IQ, skeletal damage, and endocrine system problems.
Were They Quick To Relay The Message?
Public health agencies in states such as Vermont and New Hampshire immediately issued media warnings based on the ADA alert.
Other states, however, took months to relay the message.
The Department of Health of Florida, for instance, posted the message on its website after four months, with an accompanying note that read: “Mixing formula with fluoridated water poses no known health risks.”
Fluoride Ban
“After more than half a century of denial, the American Dental Association has finally capitulated to the facts and issued warnings on the dangers of fluoride,” says natural health expert Dr. Joseph Mercola, founder of Mercola.com, the most visited natural health site on the Internet.
For 60 years, it has been standard practice in many countries to add fluoride to drinking water in order to prevent tooth decay. However, the practice has come under scrutiny following the fluoride ban in more and more European countries.
Dr. Mercola warns that children enrolled in the Women, Infant, and Children’s Nutrition program (WIC) are particularly at risk. The WIC program only subsidizes powdered and condensed baby formulas that have to be mixed with water.
He advises that if you are unable to breastfeed, you should educate yourself on two things: the dangers of fluoride and the health risks of using infant formulas.
What to Do With Your Drinking Water
Did you know that the fluoride put into your water is an industrial waste product from the phosphate fertilizer industry?
But, the threat of water contamination does not only come from fluoride, but also from lead, arsenic, cadmium, and other toxins in your water supply.
Thus Dr. Mercola believes it is wise to use high quality water filters to purify tap water and protect your family against a host of potential diseases. A durable, top-quality water filtration system can be easily installed at home to make safe drinking water always available.
“Please don’t fool yourself into thinking that you can tell your water is safe by the way it looks, tastes, or smells. Ensure your family’s safety whenever you drink water, bathe, or wash laundry, utensils, or the food you eat,” Dr. Mercola suggests.
