Pure, Clear Drinking Water for Your Tea

Posted on December 1st, 2011 by admin  |  No Comments »

For years, drinking tea has been considered a healthful and refreshing habit. According to natural health expert Dr. Joseph Mercola, tea contains a bountiful concentration of nutrients called antioxidants, which help fight harsh free radicals in your body. Next to purified drinking water (his number one choice), Dr. Mercola recommends tea for everyone to drink.

When drinking tea, you have to take into consideration its one critical component. Simply using just any unfiltered water would render the tea’s benefits useless and compromise your health and safety. Dr. Mercola explains that regardless if your tea product is USDA certified, it will be ineffective as long as your water is contaminated. If you are using unfiltered tap water for your beverages, you should change this practice.

The Dangers of Tap Water

Are you aware of the chemicals used for tap water treatment in the United States? Many of these treatment facilities employ chlorine to purify their water supply. Contrary to what most people believe, this microbe-killing agent is not all that safe.

Evidence shows that disinfection byproducts (DBPs) are produced from chlorine. The most common forms of DBPs formed are trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs). Once they react with organic matter, these toxins are suspected to be more detrimental to your health than chlorine itself.

Fluoride is another toxic chemical. This industrial substance, although believed to be linked to maintaining oral health, is actually a poison. Studies show that it accumulates in your bones, weakening them. It can also lead to neurological damage in children and affect their motor abilities and development.

The Problem with Well Water

The painful reality is although we believe well water to be a pure source, modern well water is now likely to be contaminated with many toxic elements that are usually dumped into the ground soil. Some of the most common substances that are found in soil are herbicides, pesticides, drug residues, heavy metals, and estrogen-mimicking hormones.  No matter how clean well water seems, you should have it tested.

Choosing a Water Filter

There are numerous other hazards found in drinking water. A solution is to check with your local water company to see whether or not there are contaminants in your drinking water.

If there are contamination issues, your best bet is to find a quality water filtration system. Although boiling water is a widely used method, it does not completely remove DBPs and other toxic chemicals. Dr. Mercola recommends a number of water filtration products for your household use, or whole house filters for you to get complete protection and save on individual installation costs.

Once you combine purified water with the antioxidant effects of tea, you will be doing your health a favor. At the same time, prioritizing drinking water safety will save you and your family from a myriad of potential health concerns.
